Fern Communications, an OEG Offshore company, has signed a four-year contract with Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Ltd to support and maintain the Moray East communications system.
During September 2021 Fern Communications Technical Manager James Cleverly and Engineer Luke Gooderham successfully installed Wavecom®, the offshore digital radio communications system package for Moray East O&M. Wavecom® provides full field coverage of over 9000km², to Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) & construction vessels.
The sheer geographical size of Moray East's location demanded a robust communications system in O&M which can integrate multi-level technologies delivering a communications package that is both unique and innovative. Fern Communications' Wavecom® answered this problem.
Dispatcher stations located in Fraserburgh and operated by Moray East marine coordinators can communicate with vessels in the field and along the transit routes 24/7. Multi-level redundancies are in place to ensure the smooth operation of the communications system.
Fern Communications was founded by Clive and Jennifer Cushion, nearly 20 years ago. Together they have designed and manufactured compact and innovative portable repeaters for reliable communications for the construction, installation, operations, and maintenance of offshore wind farms including RWE's Galloper, ScottishPower Renewables East Anglia ONE and now Ocean Wind's Moray East.
